CO2 Carbon Capture and Storage Pipelines – FOIA and Public Records Requests

The following Freedom of Information Act and public records requests were made in August 2021, as part of a multiyear investigation into carbon capture and storage (CCS). These FOIA requests are probing how states are coordinating or being informed of Federal and corporate plans to build a nationwide network of carbon dioxide pipelines to carry the CO2 from pollution sources like coal, natural gas and oil fired power plants, oil refineries, ethanol plants, steel mills, cement kilns scattered all over the country and take that CO2 waste to other states or offshore where scientists have determined there are deep geologic formations that meant to hold the CO2. Our recent investigation into a February 2020 CO2 pipeline accident in Mississippi, was published on Huffington Post.

Click beside each request to see the original records request we issued and any correspondence with that state or Federal agency will be added as we get responses in coming months.
