The Anti-Environmental Archives is a project to curate historic documents from the anti-environmental movement, cataloging organizations and individuals who work to undermine environmental protection and conservation.
With the launch of this archive on Earth Day 2015, we are posting over 3,500 documents, some 27,000 pages, covering 350 organizations and individuals. The current archive includes mainly documents collected in the late 1980s through the early 2000s by The Clearinghouse on Environmental Advocacy and Research (CLEAR), an organization that tracked the rise of the so called “Wise Use” movement in the 1990s during the Clinton presidency. Multiple organizations and individuals who were active in the anti-environmental movement in the 1990s are still fighting today against Federal environmental and public lands policy.
More documents will be added over time from FOIAs, court records and other research. We welcome document contributions. Please contact us anonymously or directly through the mail or email.
